Outside (Landscape) Lighting

Christmas Lights

Electrical Shock can be caused by improper outside electrical wiring!

When installing outside wiring to landscape lighting, steps must be taken to make sure it is a safe installation that will NEVER present the possibility of shock to anyone.

The wire itself must be approved for outside use.   If exposed to the rays from the sun, it must be "sunlight resistant".   If it will be buried, it must be of the "direct burial" type.

When routing wires, be sure they can not be damaged through normal, edging, mowing or weeding.

If a "Low-Voltage Kit" is purchased, be sure to follow the enclosed directions.

If installing a light that is near combustible material, (house, plants, dead leaves etc.) be sure the fixture is aimed away from flammable material.   Also, plants grow, so you want to plan for the possibility of the plant growing into the area in front of the lamp.

If near a pool or spa, it is very important they are installed properly. This means using approved wiring methods, no damaged wires, good connections, and probably the most important is a good ground connection to all metal parts that could be touched by anyone.
